Eddy De Clercq - Afrotronic
Afrotronic is the new album by the legendary dance pioneer and producer Eddy de Clercq, inspired by African rhythms and atmospheres. In 1996 he visited South Africa for the first time, where he DJ’ed at Mission To Mars, one of the country's first major raves. It turned out to be a turning point in his experience of music. EdC: “Musically, this first visit to the country turned my whole world upside down. The DJs at a local radio station played Kwaito, Rap and House in a way I hadn't heard before. Since the abolition of Apartheid in 1994, there has been a youth culture that has developed rapidly, especially through music. Initially based on Western examples, later the focus was more on their own African identity and sound.”
